I didn't particularly like it, but thought we did an ok job of keeping possession when we 1-0 up to control the game and stop them equalising. We kind of kept probing to attack but not risking losing possession of the ball.

They had some lively players and looked a threat. Agree that King was decent for them. Lanzini changed the game and he must surely be starting next match. Bowen our stand out player again and getting better and better.

Yeah only cost 12m and they bought him pretty quick after selling the Kiwi to Newcastle.
That's what gets on my tits with Moyes sometimes he can't see the trees for the woods

Yeah, I was half expecting a Peter Crouch beanpole when I saw the height of him, but he's a bit of a unit.

Just watching Burnley Man Utd and that Weghorst looks a decent player

I thought that. Proper handful. Fast and strong. A couple of their players were decent.

We struggled against a well organised side last night but, Bowen got us over the line in the end and a win is a win.

Hindsight is a wonderful thing but, I thought Josh King had a good game for Watford, maybe he could have done a job for us!

I imagine with Antonio it's two things.

First- he's knackered given all the reliance on him, games played and the added pressure of Jamaica

Second- since he emerged as a real threat, people have been more specifically planning for how they play him, and to minimise his influence on the game. He's definitely getting way more attention, rough treatment and getting fouled a lot more. Less space to work in. It makes it much harder for him to be an influence and he has to find a way of combatting it. It was mentioned yesterday when he was fouled and the lino didn't give it that he is basically punished for being too honest and trying to stay on his feet too much.

One positive is that I think it's opened up things for Bowen a little, with extra attention going onto Antonio.

Here's a reminder of what a confident Antonio looks like:

https://www.skysports.com/watch/video/sports/football/12113160/antonio-bicycle-kick-helps-west-ham-hold-city

Not just sublime skill, but skill under pressure.

Unfortunately, it has to be recognised that he's a confidence player, and while he's short of confidence, he does look like he has poor technique.

Thank fuck he isn't as much a confidence player as Diop, who looks so bad there seems to be no way back.

It has always been the same with Antonio, if he scores or assists then his appearance was worthwhile but otherwise its often detrimental.

Re: ⚽ West Ham v Watford - Official Match Thread
Last night we seemed to struggle to break down an organised team.

When they pressed high we ended up just pumping it up to Antonio who was isolated. If we kept it then it was just backwards and sideways passing. We struggle to show the creativity to unlock and get in behind teams. With alot of games at home still to come against bottom half teams its a worry. Another issue i noticed was the midfielders not being comfortable in spraying a 40 yard pass out wide. Rice can do it, but times last night where Soucek and Fornals are seeing the ball on and not having the ability to play it. A prem midfielder should be able to hit that pass.

I can’t believe we lost last night to fucking Watford.

Moyes out, useless manager.

Oh we won you say? Sorry reading this thread and not knowing the result I thought we had lost.

Cuntz.

Re: ⚽ West Ham v Watford - Official Match Thread
yes technically he has never been strong, but when he was banging in goals and an absolute beast who cares. No he is struggling his technical ability is a thing to beat him with.

His touch last night was dreadful and one cross he just sent into the trevor brooking

Hopefully Moyes gets him firing again, otherwise he needs to be replaced in the starting 11 in the summer

Re: ⚽ West Ham v Watford - Official Match Thread
The biggest issue with this team is that the running has largely stopped.

We are predictable and one dimensional again. We weren't before.

We play side to side, virtually never go down the middle...when we did we actually scored and all-be-it lucky goal.

We are easy to read. The ball will get played around the back, end up with Cresswell who will take the pace out of the play, stop the ball and shrug his shoulders. Coufal will take it forward but he hasn't hit the same form as last season. Rubbish last night - the ball often ended up off the pitch.

Soucek never arrives late in the box to get on the end of crosses anymore. We've lost at least 5 goals from open play from no longer doing that.

I understand we're allowing Rice to get forward more but he needs to better Souceks goals / assists to make it worthwhile. Lets remember he was getting a few himself in a deeper position so he effectively needs to get the amount he was plus the amount Soucek is no longer getting to 'break even'.

Fornals & Benrahma both tidy players but drift out of form.

I do like him. I would have him in this team. I do think he can be effective and sometimes is. That doesn't mean he has good footballing ability.

Re: ⚽ West Ham v Watford - Official Match Thread
Only positive from last night is that we played shit and won, some say thats a sign of a good team

Lanzini made the difference, bit of urgency on the ball and looked to move it forward. Bowen was good aswell, the rest of them were bang average going forward.

Issue with the team for me is 2 things....

1) no fresh faces added in january to give the squad a lift and to share the workload

2) players playing shit are left on the pitch as the bench is so shit. Last night Antonio and Soucek probably both deserved to be hooked but theres no one on the bench thats worth putting on. Thought Fornals was also average again going forward, he would be much better in that CDM position

Re: ⚽ West Ham v Watford - Official Match Thread
Part of the reason Antonio’s hammys have lasted so long is because fornals does the chasing of the defenders and Antonio goes wide to cut out the passes.

It’s part of the reason fornals has been moved to the middle… problem is he isn’t a true no 10 and was much better on the left with cresswell.

So we are basically sacrificing a couple of position to accommodate one injury prone striker

Re: ⚽ West Ham v Watford - Official Match Thread
Kaiser, I wouldn't be surprised if he's been told by Moyes to preserve energy. He seemed to lay off the hard work at about the same time that we stopped pressing so far up the field.

I don't think he's unwilling to work. He used to walk off the field wearing buckets.
